Peking University and ByteDance have made a significant advancement in technological collaboration by officially launching the 'Doubao Large Model System Software Joint Laboratory' on December 12. This initiative aims to harness ByteDance's extensive experience in artificial intelligence and Peking University's strengths in academic research and technological innovation to collaboratively advance the development and practical application of large model technologies.
The research at the joint laboratory will focus closely on ByteDance's 'Doubao Large Model.' Research teams from Peking University and ByteDance will collaboratively work within the laboratory to tackle key challenges such as large model training and inference, aiming to enhance the performance and efficiency of large models and drive further advancements in artificial intelligence technology.
It is noteworthy that as the joint laboratory continues to develop and expand, an increasing number of Peking University students will have the opportunity to intern and gain practical experience within the laboratory. They will work alongside top industry researchers to engage in cutting-edge technological research. This initiative not only fosters students' practical skills and innovative thinking but also supplies the artificial intelligence field with more outstanding talent.
Since its establishment in 2023, ByteDance's Doubao Large Model team has been dedicated to exploring various research areas, including deep learning, reinforcement learning, large language models (LLMs), speech processing, computer vision, AI infrastructure, and AI security. The team has successfully developed an in-house universal large model that features multimodal capabilities, supporting over 50 business scenarios such as Doubao, Kouzi, and Jimeng. This model is made available to enterprise clients through the Volcano Engine platform.
At the 2024 Spring Volcano Engine Force Power conference held in May this year, ByteDance officially announced the public availability of the Doubao Large Model, signifying widespread recognition of the team's technical prowess in the artificial intelligence field. This collaboration with Peking University will undoubtedly further strengthen ByteDance's leading position in AI and inject new vitality into the development of China's artificial intelligence industry.
