Apple to Completely Transform Siri with AI for Full Function Control
According to reports, Apple plans to make significant artificial intelligence updates to Siri, allowing users to operate specific iPhone application functions through voice commands. It is understood that the updated Siri will be part of the iOS 18 system and is expected to be officially launched next year.
Bloomberg revealed that the new Siri will have smarter analytical capabilities and will automatically provide Siri-controlled options based on the user's activities on their phone. In the initial stage, users will be able to control various functions within Apple's own applications through Siri, and Apple also plans to support "hundreds" of voice commands in these applications.
It is worth noting that currently Siri can only handle one voice command at a time. However, Bloomberg pointed out that Apple is developing more advanced features, and in the future, Siri will be able to handle multiple tasks simultaneously, such as allowing users to record and send meeting summaries to friends with just one sentence.
This update is reminiscent of Samsung's Bixby, which was launched in 2017. At that time, Samsung promised that users could complete any touch operation in Samsung applications through voice commands. Although it is still unclear how Apple's update will work, Microsoft's recent demonstration showcased how its GPT-4o-powered Copilot assistant can perform tasks such as guiding Minecraft gameplay by observing the screen, which may provide a reference for Siri's future development.
Last month, Bloomberg also reported that Apple is focusing on processing many AI requests on devices. This means that for simple commands, Siri will process them directly on the iPhone, while more complex requests will be obtained from the cloud. There are rumors that Apple has partnered with OpenAI to ensure the security of cloud processing data through the M2 Ultra chip and its secure enclave technology, making it as reliable as on-device data.
These reports align with recent research papers and discoveries by AppleInsider, all indicating that Apple is making significant improvements to Siri. In addition to enhancing Siri's voice control capabilities, Apple also plans to add analysis and summarization features for text in Messages, as well as introduce AI transcription functionality into applications such as "Voice Memos" and "Notes".
Although the new Siri will not be officially launched until next year, we expect to see Apple's milestone achievements in Siri development at this year's Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC).
