Adobe Unveils Acrobat AI Assistant for Enhanced Document Understanding

2024-04-17

After several months of beta testing, Adobe has now rolled out its Acrobat AI Assistant to all users. This generative AI assistant aims to reduce the time users spend searching long documents and understanding document content by engaging in conversations with AI. The Acrobat AI Assistant is available through Adobe Acrobat Reader or a paid Acrobat subscription. This assistant is capable of parsing long documents, answering questions about them, summarizing content, recommending topics related to the documents for inquiry, and providing citations when necessary. These citations are provided to assure users of the verifiability of AI responses, and the AI also offers clickable links that directly navigate to relevant sections within the document. The extracted comprehensive information from the document can also be adjusted to fit different formats such as emails, presentations, reports, and blog articles. Currently, the AI assistant is only available in English and is compatible with desktop and web versions of Acrobat. Subscription prices start at $4.99 per month. A free mobile version is also in the testing phase on iOS and Android, offering voice command functionality for interacting with the assistant. Adobe has also integrated the AI assistant into the web extensions of Microsoft Edge and Google Chrome browsers, allowing users to summarize and understand PDFs directly from web searches without leaving the browser. Abhigyan Modi, Senior Vice President of Adobe Document Cloud, explained in a blog post, "We are excited to see customers using the AI assistant in new and creative ways to enhance productivity - including leveraging these features to handle their tax documents." He added, "Whether you are one of the many Americans delaying tax payments, a small business owner trying to cope with new industry regulations, a project manager needing to summarize and share information from a massive research report, a student researching for a term paper, or simply someone looking for warranty terms for a new refrigerator - Acrobat AI Assistant can help everyone reduce search time and increase learning time." Adobe has rapidly adopted generative AI over the past year and is actively working on enhancing the capabilities of the AI assistant, such as copywriting and editing tools. This aligns with Adobe's Firefly synthetic media model and tool strategy, which can be used in Photoshop and other Adobe products. The company regularly upgrades and expands this toolkit, incorporating large language models (LLMs) in areas such as video, presentations, and website building. Firefly is also targeted towards a wide range of enterprises. This includes the recently launched Firefly Services and Custom Model tools. Firefly Services is a collection of about 20 new generative AI APIs aimed at creative professionals, including tools for resizing assets across different channels, generating custom backgrounds for business and e-commerce, and tools for replacing scenery and language for localization purposes. Meanwhile, Custom Models allow enterprises to train and customize their own generative AI models based on their unique needs. These custom models are designed to be simple to use, easy to maintain, and can be shared across the organization to ensure consistency in branding for creative and marketing teams.
