Google's Gemini to Arrive Sooner than Expected

2023-12-05

According to reports, Google has postponed the release of Gemini to January, with only one month left. After announcing this artificial intelligence at the 2023 Google I/O conference, the company originally postponed the release of Gemini to the first quarter of next year, and Sundar Pichai canceled a series of activities targeting Gemini starting next week. The main reason for the delay is that Google is trying to achieve or surpass OpenAI's GPT-4. According to new reports, the company believes that it has "met this standard" in certain aspects. The current focus is on global language support. This delay indicates that Google is facing challenges in the development of Gemini, putting it in a catching-up position in the competition with OpenAI. Pichai stated that he found the model unreliable when dealing with non-English queries. During a recent earnings conference call, Google's CEO briefly mentioned the Gemini project, saying, "We are just laying the foundation for what I think will be the next generation of models that we will launch throughout 2024." Pichai hinted that it will be multimodal and highly efficient in terms of tool and API integration, providing various scales and capabilities. He said that Gemini will be used internally in all their products immediately, and will also be launched for developers and cloud computing customers through Vertex AI. Meanwhile, Google's ChatGPT competitor, Bard, is striving for market recognition. ChatGPT poses a challenge to Google because its numerous users provide valuable data, which is crucial for OpenAI to monitor and improve the quality of its products. Currently, ChatGPT has over 100 million weekly users. Just as Google has a perfect opportunity to release its model amidst the chaos at OpenAI (Sam Altman's dismissal and ongoing instability), Amazon Web Services (AWS) has also announced the launch of its Q Chatbot to compete in the same field. Currently, only Google has not yet launched.
