Microsoft to Expand AI Features to New Intel and AMD Laptops in November
Microsoft is about to introduce a brand new Windows AI feature to some AMD and Intel laptop users in November. It is worth noting that although AMD has taken the lead by launching laptops that meet Microsoft's Copilot Plus PC hardware standards to support these cutting-edge AI features, these features were previously limited to devices powered by Qualcomm drivers.
Now, Intel is following suit and officially unveiling its latest Intel Core Ultra 200V processor, codenamed "Lunar Lake." This processor is expected to join the ranks of supporting Copilot Plus PC functionality later this year. "All devices equipped with Intel Core Ultra 200V series processors and running the latest Windows system will be eligible to receive Copilot Plus PC functionality through a free update starting from November," Intel stated in an official announcement.
Previously, Microsoft revealed that both Intel Lunar Lake and AMD Strix Point PC will receive free updates to unlock Copilot Plus PC functionality, but the specific release date has been pending. Now, Microsoft has confirmed that the new Copilot Plus PC models from Intel and AMD will both receive these AI enhancements in November and revealed that "some selected features may be previewed in the Windows Insider community before being rolled out to the public."
The highlights of Copilot Plus PC functionality include Microsoft's self-developed Auto Super Resolution technology, which serves as a strong competitor to DLSS by improving game frame rates through content upsampling technology. This innovation utilizes the built-in Neural Processing Unit (NPU) chip in the new Copilot Plus PC, effectively reducing the burden on the CPU and GPU.
In addition, Copilot Plus PC also integrates features such as image Cocreate, enhanced Windows Studio Effects, and the ability for applications like DaVinci Resolve Studio to leverage the NPU chip for accelerated processing tasks. It is worth mentioning that Recall AI, which was delayed due to security considerations, is now planned to be opened to Windows Insider testers in October before gradually being rolled out to all Copilot Plus PC users.
