Box Integrates with Azure OpenAI to Deliver Enhanced AI Capabilities

2024-03-06

Cloud content management giant Box recently announced that it will add more artificial intelligence (AI) capabilities to its platform by integrating with Microsoft's Azure OpenAI service, allowing advanced large-scale language models to access the vast amount of data stored in Box Content Cloud. This collaboration is a continuation of the introduction of Box AI last year, which has already introduced a set of generative AI capabilities in the Box platform.

Currently in the testing phase, Box AI primarily helps users ask and answer questions about the information stored in Box Content Cloud, and assists users in creating new content by utilizing the generative capabilities of AI. Since OpenAI's chatbot ChatGPT caused a sensation on the Internet with its ability to answer questions and generate human-like content, generative AI has become a trend. Since then, technology providers like Box have been integrating this technology to improve enterprise productivity.

Through integration with Azure OpenAI, Box claims to be able to support various new workloads. For example, financial services companies will be able to extract insights such as market trends and economic indicators from detailed reports stored in Box. They only need to ask questions about their data, and OpenAI's model will quickly summarize the content it discovers.

In addition, generative AI also has broad application prospects in the field of life sciences, helping to distill information and extract insights from clinical trial data and other sources. Meanwhile, in the insurance and legal industries, generative AI can also help companies quickly and accurately obtain key information, improving work efficiency.

These use cases have tremendous potential to greatly enhance work efficiency. The additional advantage of the integration between Box and Azure OpenAI is that it strictly complies with regulations such as FINRA, GxP, and FedRAMP. According to Box, this means that customers will benefit from Microsoft's enterprise-level standards in security, privacy, and compliance, enabling them to better leverage this groundbreaking technology.

Box's Chief Technology Officer, Ben Kus, stated that although generative AI is still a relatively new concept for most businesses, customers are very excited about applying this technology to the content in Box. He pointed out, "We have been collaborating with Microsoft for over a decade, driving innovation in previous technological transformations including cloud computing and mobile computing. Now, in this AI era, we are expanding our collaboration once again, bringing AI to enterprises without sacrificing data security, privacy, compliance, and governance."

Meanwhile, Box AI also announced its full launch. Previously, its toolkit had been in beta testing, but thousands of customers were eager to explore its capabilities. Some early adopters include wealth advisors and product marketing managers who use Box AI to analyze investor relations documents, generate new content, and assist in investment decision-making and improving work efficiency.

Box revealed that Box AI is now fully available to Enterprise Plus subscribers, with individual users having access to 20 queries per month and companies having an additional 2,000 queries. This announcement is built on the foundation of long-term collaboration between Box and Microsoft, which has achieved numerous integrations over the years. For example, the integration of Box Content Cloud with Microsoft Teams directly incorporates the collaboration platform into Box's platform, and vice versa. In addition, Box has also integrated with office tools and Outlook email client platform in the Microsoft 365 suite.

It is worth mentioning that Box also stated that its platform will integrate with Microsoft Copilot in Microsoft 365 later this year. This move will further expand the scope of collaboration between Box and Microsoft, bringing more comprehensive and efficient solutions to enterprise users.
