Microsoft Copilot launches dedicated app on Android
2023-12-27
Microsoft has quietly launched a dedicated Copilot application for Android devices. This new app is now available on Google Play Store, providing access to Microsoft's AI-driven Copilot without the need for the Bing mobile app. The Android version of Copilot has been live for nearly a week, but the iOS version has not been released yet.
Microsoft's Copilot app on the Android platform is similar to ChatGPT, offering chatbot functionality, the ability to generate images through DALL-E 3, and drafting text for emails and documents. It also provides free access to OpenAI's latest GPT-4 model, a feature that is paid for when using ChatGPT.
Over a month after Microsoft renamed Bing Chat to Copilot, the Android version of the Copilot app has been released. Earlier this year, Microsoft introduced AI push in its Bing search engine, integrating a ChatGPT-like interface into search results. While still available, Microsoft has abandoned the Bing Chat brand and made Copilot a more independent experience, complete with its own dedicated domain copilot.microsoft.com.
Launching a mobile app for Copilot seems like the logical next step in expanding this independent Copilot experience. Although there is currently no iOS version of Copilot, it is expected to arrive soon. In the meantime, you can access the existing Copilot features on an iPhone or iPad using the Bing app.
