Amazon Launches New Fire HD 8 Tablet with Integrated Generative AI Features

2024-10-03

Amazon has recently unveiled the new Fire HD 8 tablet, equipped with several generative AI tools that are commonly found in 2024's latest electronic devices. Notably, these enhanced features are not exclusive to the Fire HD 8, as Amazon announced their gradual integration into the Fire HD 10 and Fire Max 11 tablets as well.

The new AI functionalities include a writing assistant integrated into the device's keyboard, designed to help users improve their writing. When using the Amazon Silk browser, users can also receive summaries of web pages. Additionally, users can create personalized wallpapers by entering prompts. Amazon stated that these tools will be rolled out to "all compatible Fire tablets" later this month.

According to Amazon spokesperson Jackie Burke, the writing assistant and wallpaper creation features will be available on the Fire Max 11 (2023 model), Fire HD 10 (2023 model), and Fire HD 8 (2022 and 2024 models). Meanwhile, the web page summarization feature will be supported on the Fire Max 11 (2023), Fire HD 10 (2019, 2021, and 2023 models), and Fire HD 8 (2018, 2020, 2022, and 2024 models).

Furthermore, there are rumors suggesting that Amazon may release an upgraded version of Alexa, potentially as a paid service, although this was not mentioned in the current announcement.

The new Fire HD 8 features upgraded specifications, drawing some aspects from the 2022 Fire HD 8 Plus, including an increase in RAM from 2GB to 3GB—which may aid in running the new AI features—and an upgrade of the rear camera from 2 megapixels to 5 megapixels. Like the previous Fire HD 8, Amazon promises that the new device will offer up to 13 hours of battery life and will be available with 32GB or 64GB of storage, expandable via a microSD card.

The latest Fire HD 8 is now on the market, available in three colors: black, emerald, and hibiscus red. Although the tablet's official starting price is $99.99, due to the upcoming Amazon Prime Big Deal Days promotion, discounts are already in effect, with the base model priced at $54.99, nearly half of the original price.

Additionally, reports indicate that Amazon may soon release an updated Kindle e-reader, as a Spanish retailer recently listed a new entry-level model featuring a brighter screen.
