New AI-Powered PCs Unveiled: Microsoft to Launch Next-Gen Surface Pro and Laptop Hardware

2024-03-07

According to reliable sources, Microsoft is about to unveil two new products this month - the Surface Pro and the Surface Laptop. It is reported that these two products will compete with popular competitors such as the iPad Pro and MacBook Pro in terms of performance and efficiency. What's more, they will be presented as the new AI PCs, showcasing the special AI features that Windows 11 will launch later this year. According to insiders, the highly anticipated Surface Pro 10 and Surface Laptop 6 are expected to be released on March 21. These devices will be equipped with the new Intel Core Ultra and Qualcomm Snapdragon X Elite processors, both of which feature the next-generation NPU (Neural Processing Unit) to enhance AI performance. It is worth mentioning that the Surface Laptop series will offer a choice between Intel and Arm processors for the first time, providing users with more possibilities. The addition of the new processors will enable the Surface Pro and Surface Laptop to achieve a qualitative leap in performance and efficiency. Both devices are expected to achieve all-day battery life and outstanding performance. In addition, they will bring a series of upgrades, including new displays, ports, and more, to provide users with a better experience. Specifically, the Surface Pro 10 will continue the design style of the Surface Pro 9, but will be equipped with a more impressive anti-reflective OLED screen with higher brightness and support for HDR content. At the same time, the device will also feature a new ultra-wide front camera to enhance AI Studio Effects and an NFC card reader for convenient daily use. On the other hand, the Surface Laptop 6 will bring more significant design updates, including narrower display bezels, rounded corners, a new touchpad, dedicated Copilot key, and updated port selection. These changes will undoubtedly make the Surface Laptop 6 more stylish in appearance and more powerful in functionality. It is reported that the new Surface Pro 10 and Surface Laptop 6 will be shipped in two batches. The first batch, starting in April, will only include Intel models, while the subsequent Arm versions are expected to be available later in June. We have reason to believe that the Arm version will use a custom Snapdragon X Elite processor, similar to the Snapdragon 8cx Gen3 used in the Surface Pro 9. In addition to hardware upgrades, the new Surface Pro and Surface Laptop will also be among the first devices to support the next generation of AI experiences that Windows 11 will soon launch. These highly anticipated AI features include Copilot functionality, real-time captions and translation, video game enhancements and frame rate smoothing, enhanced Windows Studio Effects, and a new feature called "AI Explorer" internally. It is revealed that AI Explorer will be a key differentiating experience for AI PCs. It is described as an "advanced Copilot" with built-in history/timeline functionality, capable of recording all user actions on the computer and quickly retrieving them through natural language search. Whether users need to find previous conversations, documents, web pages, or images, AI Explorer can easily handle it. For example, by simply entering "find Jenna's list of favorite restaurants," Windows can quickly locate the specific conversation content when discussing restaurants with Jenna. Even with vague prompts like "find something about dinosaurs," Windows can quickly present all the dinosaur-related content that the user has previously viewed on the computer. Furthermore, AI Explorer can understand context and help users launch projects or workflows, providing task suggestions based on the content currently displayed on the screen. For example, when a user is viewing an image in an application, AI Explorer will automatically display an "edit image" button, allowing the user to easily complete image editing by entering editing conditions such as "use the Photos app to remove the background of this image." These exciting AI features are expected to be released as part of the Windows 11 version 24H2 update in the fall of this year. This means that the AI PCs launched in the summer may not immediately have these features. It is currently unclear whether Microsoft will provide detailed information about these new AI features at the March 21 event, but we can expect Microsoft to bring us more exciting content about these innovative features in the future.
