OpenAI has recently announced the successful resolution of a critical security vulnerability in its ChatGPT macOS application. This flaw could have allowed attackers to embed long-dormant spyware into the AI tool, posing a severe threat to user data security.
According to security expert Johann Rehberger, the technology known as SpAIware, if maliciously exploited, could result in continuous leakage of all information users input into ChatGPT and the corresponding response data. This leakage could even extend to future chat sessions. The root of this vulnerability lies in ChatGPT's "memory" feature, introduced by OpenAI earlier this year to enhance user experience by allowing the AI to retain user information during conversations, thereby reducing repetitive queries.
