Intel has partnered with Altera to launch a new AI-optimized processor and field-programmable gate array (FPGA) for edge computing.
These innovative products aim to provide cutting-edge AI capabilities for various industries, including retail, healthcare, automotive, and aerospace.
Dan Rodriguez, Corporate Vice President and General Manager of Intel's Network and Edge Solutions Group, emphasized in a statement, "The next-generation edge-optimized processors and discrete GPUs launched by Intel demonstrate powerful AI capabilities that help businesses seamlessly integrate AI with computing, media, and graphics workloads."
This collaboration between Intel and Altera aims to meet the growing demand for AI-driven edge devices and accelerate local, faster, and smarter decision-making processes. They have introduced a series of edge-optimized Intel Core i9 processors, Intel Core processors, Intel Atom processors, and Agilex 5 FPGAs, with the goal of accelerating innovation in various industries.
Distinctive Features of Multiple Chips
The edge version of Intel Core i9 processors, equipped with Intel Iris Xe Graphics and Neural Processing Units (NPUs), offers up to 5.02 times improved image classification inference performance compared to previous-generation products. These processors are designed for applications in retail, education, smart cities, and industrial sectors, enabling on-edge generative AI and high-load graphics work.
In addition, they have also launched the edge version of Intel Core processors. These processors leverage the powerful capabilities and performance hybrid architecture of GPUs, resulting in up to 2.57 times improved graphics performance compared to previous-generation products. They prioritize system scalability and deployment speed to meet diverse edge computing requirements.
For enterprise networking and telecommunications equipment, Intel has introduced the Atom x7000C series processors. These processors offer excellent packet processing throughput and built-in deep learning inference capabilities to enhance network security by detecting zero-day threats.
Furthermore, Intel has also released the Atom x7000RE series processors, designed for industrial and manufacturing applications. They feature built-in deep learning inference capabilities and up to 32 graphics execution units, support fanless design, and are suitable for AI automation operations, warehouse automation, and quality control applications.
Additionally, the Agilex 5 SoC FPGAs are another highlight. They offer powerful AI capabilities and outstanding performance per watt, delivering high performance at low power consumption. They focus on embedded applications and provide developers with the flexibility to integrate AI capabilities into products without relying on dedicated accelerators.
Meanwhile, Altera has also updated its FPGA product portfolio, including the introduction of a new Altera brand and enhancements to the FPGA AI Suite. These updates aim to provide customers with more flexible solutions to address various challenges from the cloud to intelligent edge.
