Artificial Intelligence to Reproduce the Voice of Edith Piaf

2023-11-15

Warner Music and the estate manager of Edith Piaf announced that they will utilize artificial intelligence technology to create a new biographical film about her life, allowing the French superstar to tell her own story in her own voice. According to sources close to Warner Music France, "Edith" is currently in the final stages of development, but no release date has been scheduled. This "innovative and revolutionary technology project that uses AI to create her voice and image" is being produced 60 years after Piaf's death. Prior to this, The Beatles released their latest single "Now And Then" with the help of AI. The song soared to the top of the UK singles chart for the first time in 54 years for the band. Artificial intelligence separated John Lennon's vocals from a tape he recorded in 1978. Together with Beatles members Paul McCartney (81 years old) and Ringo Starr (83 years old), they completed "Now And Then" last year, including guitar parts recorded by the late George Harrison in 1995. For the parts where Piaf sings the French classic songs "La vie en Rose" and "Non, je ne regrette rien" (No, I regret nothing), AI will be fed hundreds of audio and visual clips, some of which are over 80 years old, to recreate her unique style and "further enhance the authenticity and emotional impact of her story." Warner stated that her greatest hit songs will use the original recordings. This 90-minute film will traverse between Paris and New York from the 1920s to the 1960s, narrated by the singer's voice, including previously unknown aspects of "her life in all its facets."
