Deloitte Launches PairD AI Chatbot for Employee Services

2024-01-09

"One of the 'Big Four' accounting firms, Deloitte, has provided its 75,000 employees with a chatbot tool to help them quickly perform simple tasks. The company's own chatbot, named PairD, is being rolled out to employees in the UK, Europe, and the Middle East. Developed by Deloitte's Artificial Intelligence Research Institute, PairD is an internal generative AI platform designed to assist employees in performing daily tasks, including drafting content, coding, and conducting research securely and reliably. More and more companies are seeking to embrace automation as the future of work. The decision to develop and use chatbots internally is another example of Deloitte's commitment to fully harnessing the potential of artificial intelligence. Deloitte recently launched a global generative AI market incubator in collaboration with its AI Research Institute. The incubator aims to provide early-stage proof of concept and rapid prototypes for generative AI. PairD is capable of creating project plans, providing best practices for project management, and suggesting task priorities. The promotion of chatbots to its employees in the UK, Europe, and the Middle East is part of the company's broader investment in AI and analytics. Deloitte states that staff can use PairD to answer emails, draft written content, automate tasks by coding, create presentations, conduct research, and create meeting agendas. The company also expects that such investments will ultimately reduce time constraints and costs. Unlike other companies that collaborate with partners to create chatbot tools, Deloitte has independently launched PairD. This chatbot is entirely created by the company's AI Research Institute, highlighting the industry's increasing adoption of generative AI for task automation. However, according to the Financial Times, this chatbot may still be an ongoing project, and employees have been warned that the tool may generate inaccurate information about people, places, and facts. Users are advised to exercise their own judgment and quality assurance when using the tool. Making artificial intelligence accessible to everyone is a priority for Deloitte. After granting access to its 75,000 employees, the disability equality charity Scope and its 800 employees will gain access at some point in 2024. This will be part of a supportive initiative in collaboration with Deloitte, aimed at understanding the barriers faced by non-digital natives and people with disabilities. Deloitte is particularly interested in helping make AI more inclusive and plans to gain insights from its collaboration with Scope to assist other similar charities. Scope's collaboration is part of Deloitte's commitment to narrowing the digital divide. Since January 2021, Deloitte has donated over 12,000 laptops to schools, charities, and refugee groups to help address the digital skills gap and support people in overcoming educational and employment barriers. The company has recently opened applications, welcoming 30 charities and social enterprises to join the third cohort of Deloitte Digital Connect, a program that helps charities expand their digital impact. Richard Houston, CEO of Deloitte UK and Deloitte NSE, said, 'Generative AI should be available and accessible to everyone, and companies like ours must ensure that the adoption of AI promotes social equality rather than exacerbating existing disparities.' "But it's not just about access to technology—it also includes acquiring the skills to use it, which is what truly creates opportunities and helps narrow the digital divide. We aim to enhance the usability of our AI platform and assist Scope in fully leveraging PairD for the benefit of charities and the people they support."
