Gmail is gradually incorporating more artificial intelligence features to help you manage your emails more efficiently.
On the web, Google has introduced a new Gemini sidebar that can perform tasks such as organizing email threads and composing new emails quickly. According to Google's official blog, this tool not only provides "proactive suggestions" but also supports you in asking "free-form questions". Moreover, it is designed to make full use of Google's cutting-edge models, such as Gemini 1.5 Pro. In the Gmail mobile app, Google will also allow you to experience the feature of organizing conversation threads with Gemini.
These improvements undoubtedly bring us many conveniences, but it is worth noting that these features are currently only available to paying Gemini users: that is, you need to be a customer of Google Workspace and have purchased Gemini Business or Enterprise add-ons, Gemini Education or Education Premium add-ons, or be a subscriber of Google One AI Premium. At the same time, it is recommended not to rely entirely on these tools for work; because AI sometimes "creates illusions", please be sure to double-check before sending important emails processed with Gemini's assistance.
In addition to Gmail, Google also plans to introduce Gemini features in the sidebars of Docs, Sheets, Slides, and Drive. This is an update that Google promised at the I/O conference last month. Furthermore, there are some newly announced Gmail AI features that will be launched soon, including "contextual smart replies".
