Artificial Intelligence Ascends to Central Role at Microsoft
Mikhail Parakhin, who previously led Microsoft's Windows and Web Experience team, announced today that he has "decided to explore new roles" and will be reporting to Microsoft's Chief Technology Officer, Kevin Scott, during the transition period. It is currently unclear whether Parakhin will be leaving Microsoft or taking on a new role within the company.
After Parakhin's departure, Microsoft has appointed Pavan Davuluri, an alumnus of IIT Madras, as the new head of the Windows and Surface team, according to an internal memo from Rajesh Jha, the head of the Experiences and Devices division. Davuluri has been with Microsoft for over 23 years and has played a key role in developing custom Surface processors. He will now be responsible for overseeing the Windows and Devices team and will report directly to Jha.
The memo states, "As part of this change, we are integrating the Windows Experience team with the Windows + Devices team as a core part of the Experiences + Devices (E+D) division." By integrating the teams, the memo suggests that the development of technology for Windows will take a more integrated approach, covering both client and cloud platforms in the "AI era."
These leadership changes come just days after Mustafa Suleyman, co-founder of Google DeepMind and former CEO of Inflection AI, joined Microsoft as the new head of the AI team. With these changes in leadership and team integration, it appears that Microsoft is actively integrating hardware, software, and artificial intelligence.
