Microsoft suspends new Copilot feature in Windows 11

2024-05-07

Internal personnel of the Windows Developer Channel can now access the internal preview version Build 26120.461 (KB5037009). This update, although not bringing significant changes, covers a range of general improvements, bug fixes, and important updates to Copilot in Windows.

Based on user feedback, Microsoft has decided to temporarily suspend some new features of Copilot in Windows, including the feature of presenting it as a regular application window and a dynamic taskbar icon. During this period, Copilot will continue to operate normally, and the Microsoft team will continue to optimize these features.

This update also fixes the issue of Copilot automatically starting after restarting the computer, improving the user experience.

Warm reminder for internal personnel of the Windows Developer Channel:

  • · This update released to the Developer Channel is based on Windows 11, version 24H2.
  • · Due to our continuous exploration of new concepts and collection of feedback, the features and experiences in these builds may never be publicly released. Features may be adjusted, removed, or replaced over time, and there is no guarantee that they will be released to all internal personnel of Windows. Some features and experiences may appear in future versions of Windows when they are ready.
  • · Many features in the Developer Channel are gradually rolled out using controlled feature rollout technology, starting with a small number of internal personnel and gradually expanding to all users in this channel based on feedback.
  • · If you want to get new features as soon as possible, you can switch to the latest updates through "Settings" > "Windows Update". Over time, we will increase the feature push to users who have this switch turned on. If you keep it turned off, new features will be gradually pushed to your device when they are ready.
  • · As the Developer and Beta channels represent parallel development paths for our engineers, some features and experiences may first appear in the Beta channel.
  • Please visit the Flight Hub for complete information on which builds are released in which internal personnel channels.
  • · The Copilot preview version in Windows is gradually being rolled out to internal personnel in specific markets worldwide, initially covering North America, the UK, and parts of Asia and South America. We plan to gradually increase more markets over time.
