Baidu Apollo Releases World's First L4 Level Autonomous Driving Large-Scale Model at Wuhan Intelligent Driving Valley.
Yesterday, Baidu Apollo held the Apollo Day 2024 at Baidu Luobo Kuaipao Autonomous Driving Valley in Wuhan, where it unveiled the world's first large-scale model specifically designed for L4-level autonomous driving, the Apollo Autonomous Driving Foundation Model (ADFM). This milestone innovation signifies a significant step forward in autonomous driving technology.
Baidu stated that the Apollo ADFM redefines the boundaries of autonomous driving through its large-scale model technology, which combines both safety and generalization. Through meticulous research and development, the Apollo ADFM achieves comprehensive coverage of complex urban scenarios, surpassing human drivers in terms of safety by more than ten times. This achievement is attributed to Baidu's extensive experience in applying large-scale models to autonomous driving, enabling Baidu Luobo Kuaipao to make significant progress in tackling complex road scenarios in Wuhan and achieve comprehensive coverage of the city's entire spatial and temporal scenes.
In the L2+ intelligent driving field, Baidu has also made remarkable progress. Currently, the only pure vision-based urban navigation-assisted driving product in China, ANP3, will fully utilize the Apollo ADFM and be upgraded to ASD (Apollo Self-Driving). This technological upgrade will first be mass-produced and launched in the Jiyue series of vehicles, heralding the arrival of a new era of intelligent driving where "smart driving can be done nationwide and anywhere with Baidu Maps."
Baidu has consistently emphasized the safety advantages of autonomous driving technology over human driving. According to the latest data, Baidu Apollo has accumulated over 100 million kilometers of autonomous driving mileage without any major accidents. Baidu provides a high insurance coverage of up to 5 million RMB for each unmanned vehicle and passenger. Over the past two years, the actual accident rate of the vehicles is only 1/14 of that of human drivers, further demonstrating the safety and reliability of autonomous driving technology.
During the Apollo Day 2024 conference, Baidu Apollo also unveiled its sixth-generation unmanned vehicle, the Xiaodu 06. Priced at 204,600 RMB, the first batch of 1,000 vehicles will be delivered to Luobo Kuaipao, providing new impetus for the commercial application of autonomous driving technology.
The hosting of Apollo Day 2024 and the release of Apollo ADFM not only showcase Baidu's profound strength in the field of autonomous driving but also set a new benchmark for the global development of autonomous driving technology. In the future, Baidu Apollo will continue to dedicate itself to promoting the innovation and application of autonomous driving technology, bringing more convenience and safety to human travel.
