Highly anticipated r1 AI device creator rabbit has revealed the latest details of the device ahead of its upcoming release. In collaboration with leading AI audio research company ElevenLabs, rabbit has infused r1 with lifelike voice interaction capabilities.
r1 made its debut at the CES exhibition in January and is now set to hit the market after extensive updates and improvements. According to rabbit's founder and CEO Jesse Lyu, r1 aims to be an independent, voice-controlled personal assistant capable of seamlessly executing cross-application commands. At its core is the Large Action Model (LAM), which not only understands multi-step commands but also handles complex tasks, from ordering food to generating images based on items in the refrigerator using r1's rabbit eye camera.
ElevenLabs is renowned for its emotionally rich and realistic AI voices in 29 languages, and they have provided proprietary audio AI models for r1's voice interaction. Mati Staniszewski, CEO of ElevenLabs, stated, "Our collaboration with rabbit aims to bring the future of human-machine interaction closer, making r1 a truly dynamic assistant."
The first batch of r1 devices is expected to be shipped on March 31, with deliveries to US customers starting around April 24. At launch, r1 will feature various functions, including conversations with LLMs, real-time search with Perplexity, AI vision, bidirectional translation, and recording using AI summaries. LAM also supports music, generative AI, ride-sharing services, and ordering food.
Rabbit has been cautious in introducing LAM, focusing first on the most commonly used applications and conducting rigorous quality testing. In the future, LAM is expected to offer more new features and improve latency issues. Additionally, the company is developing an experimental "teaching mode" that allows users to train their own "rabbit" to perform specific applications and workflow tasks without programming experience.
For users, updates to r1 will be convenient, with many updates taking place in the cloud. The accompanying rabbit hole portal will assist users in managing their connected services, allowing rabbit to operate applications on behalf of users while respecting consumer privacy and accurately reporting any issues.
Rabbit collaborates with major language model providers such as Perplexity, Anthropic, and OpenAI to offer models that best understand user intent. The company is also actively involved in open research and engineering fields, such as web and application automation frameworks, agent interaction benchmarks, and on-device computing.
It is worth noting that rabbit is not the only participant in this emerging market. Next month, another company, Humane, will also begin shipping its AI product, Ai pin. With the continuous advancement of technology, we look forward to more innovative products bringing convenience and surprises to our lives.
