Truecaller collaborates with Microsoft to launch AI-powered voice answering feature

Truecaller, the application primarily used for identifying and blocking unwanted calls, now offers users an innovative feature - the ability to create an AI version of their own voice to answer calls.

Truecaller has partnered with Microsoft's Azure AI Speech service, allowing users to record their own voice clips and generate an AI version that closely resembles their own voice. This technology enables Truecaller to provide users with a more personalized and familiar service experience.

Raphael Mimoun, Product Director and General Manager of Truecaller, stated in a blog post, "This revolutionary feature not only brings a sense of familiarity and comfort to users but also showcases the powerful impact of AI in transforming the way we interact with digital assistants."

Truecaller's AI assistant feature is already capable of filtering incoming calls and displaying the reason for the call to users. Users can choose to answer the call themselves or have the AI assistant answer on their behalf. This feature has been rolled out in select countries and regions and has been a highlight of the Truecaller application since 2022.

Previously, users could only choose from preset voices to represent themselves, but now Truecaller allows users to record their own voice, further enhancing the level of personalization in the service.

At Microsoft's Build conference, Azure AI Speech service showcased its personal voice feature, which enables users to record and replicate their own voice. However, Microsoft noted in an official blog post that the personal voice feature is currently limited in its capabilities and only applicable to specific scenarios, such as voice assistants.

Microsoft stated that for voices generated using the personal voice feature of Azure AI Speech, the system automatically adds a watermark. Additionally, Microsoft has released a code of conduct that requires users to obtain full consent from recorded individuals and prohibits any form of impersonation.

Whether this personal voice feature is superior to traditional voice messaging remains to be seen and validated. However, Truecaller's innovative initiative undoubtedly brings users a more convenient and personalized communication experience.
