Andrej Karpathy, an outstanding AI researcher and former engineer at OpenAI and Tesla, has announced a new venture: Eureka Labs. This ambitious project aims to revolutionize education using AI technology.

I am excited to announce that I am founding an AI+Education company called Eureka Labs.
The announcement reads:
We are Eureka Labs, and we are building a new kind of AI-powered school.

The company's vision is to create an ideal learning experience by combining high-quality educational materials with AI-driven tutors. This approach aims to overcome the scarcity of expert human mentors while providing personalized, on-demand, and scalable education.

"With recent advancements in generative AI, this kind of learning experience has become feasible," explained Karpathy. "Teachers still design the curriculum but receive support, utilization, and extension from AI tutors optimized to help students learn through the course."

Eureka Labs' flagship product, LLM101n, is hailed as the "world's apparently best AI course." The course will guide students in building a story-telling AI large language model (LLM) from scratch. Participants will use their AI to create, refine, and tell stories while developing a web application similar to ChatGPT using Python, C, and CUDA. Eureka Labs plans to offer the course materials online and run virtual and in-person learning communities simultaneously.

This is not Karpathy's first foray into the field of education. Over the years, he has been creating learning content, including the popular CS231n course at Stanford University. His recent "From Zero to Hero" AI video series has received widespread acclaim in the tech industry. However, Eureka Labs marks his first full-time commitment to the fusion of AI and education.

"This is the culmination of my passion for AI and education over the past two decades," explained Karpathy. He is thrilled to turn his former side project into his main focus of work.

The name "Eureka" comes from the Greek word for discovery, representing the "aha" moment of sudden enlightenment that Karpathy aims to inspire in people's minds.
