Apple and NVIDIA may invest in OpenAI
According to reports, OpenAI is preparing for a round of massive financing, with Apple and Nvidia possibly being among the investors.
On Thursday, The Wall Street Journal reported that Apple, which plans to integrate ChatGPT into iOS, is in talks regarding investment. Bloomberg later reported that Apple is in negotiations, but added that Nvidia has "discussed" joining this round of financing. It is reported that Thrive Capital will lead this financing round, and OpenAI's valuation will exceed $100 billion.
It may not come as a surprise that Apple and Nvidia could eventually invest in OpenAI. Apple plans to integrate ChatGPT with Siri later this year and reportedly considered having Phil Schiller join OpenAI's board of directors, although this plan was ultimately abandoned. Nvidia is a key supplier for OpenAI, as OpenAI relies on Nvidia's chips to power its AI services.
Bloomberg also reported that Microsoft is in negotiations to join this round of financing. The company invested $1 billion in OpenAI in 2019 and made additional investments worth billions of dollars in 2023.
Apple and OpenAI did not immediately respond to requests for comment. Nvidia and Microsoft declined to comment.
