OpenAI's GPT Store finally launched on Wednesday after months of delay, allowing users to share their customized chatbots. The GPT Store brings more potential use cases for ChatGPT and expands OpenAI's ecosystem beyond the ecosystems built by the company for its customers.
Since announcing the GPT Builder program in November last year, OpenAI has stated that users have created over 3 million robots, called GPTs. The company plans to highlight useful GPTs in the GPT Store on a weekly basis.
The company initially planned to open the GPT Store in November, then postponed it to December, and finally to January. The platform allows individuals who have created their own chatbots to publicly share their versions of ChatGPT. So far, only users subscribed to OpenAI's paid tiers have been able to create and use customized GPTs.
OpenAI also announced plans to start sharing revenue with GPT creators in the first quarter of this year. GPT builders will be rewarded based on user interactions with their chatbots, but the company has not yet shared specific details on how this will be implemented.
Prior to the opening of the GPT Store, OpenAI stated that it has established a new review system to ensure that customized GPTs comply with its brand guidelines and usage policies. It has also updated the methods for reporting harmful or unsafe GPTs discovered by users.
The GPT Store will be launched for ChatGPT Plus users, enterprise users, and subscribers of a new tier called Team.
ChatGPT Team is a paid version of ChatGPT designed for small teams of around 150 people. Like ChatGPT Enterprise, ChatGPT Team provides access to advanced data analytics features of GPT-4, DALL-E 3, and OpenAI, as well as control over the data. OpenAI states that the data and conversations of ChatGPT Team will not be used to train any of its models. Subscribers of ChatGPT Team can also create custom GPTs based on the specific needs of their teams or use other GPTs in the GPT Store.
ChatGPT Team is priced at $25 per user per month (billed annually) or $30 per user per month (billed monthly).
