Qualcomm Unveils AI Hub and Advanced Connectivity Solutions at MWC
At the Mobile World Congress (MWC) in Barcelona, Qualcomm announced several developments in its field of artificial intelligence (AI) in terminals, demonstrating its commitment to leading intelligence in various devices and industries.
One important announcement from Qualcomm is the launch of the Qualcomm AI Hub, a new platform that provides developers with over 75 optimized AI models that can be readily applied to applications running on Qualcomm Snapdragon mobile platforms. This marks a significant step for developers in leveraging the advantages of AI on terminals, such as improved privacy, reliability, and efficiency.
Durga Malladi, Senior Vice President of Qualcomm, stated, "The Qualcomm AI Hub offers developers a comprehensive AI model library to easily and quickly integrate pre-optimized AI models into their applications, resulting in faster, more reliable, and more secure user experiences."
The existing models cover capabilities such as speech, language, audio, vision, and multimodal understanding. Qualcomm also showcased cutting-edge generative AI research running on smartphones and personal computers, utilizing large-scale multimodal models with billions of parameters.
In terms of connectivity, Qualcomm presented its latest Snapdragon X80 5G modem-RF system, which uniquely integrates a dedicated AI processor to optimize 5G performance, including speed, latency, coverage, and efficiency.
Furthermore, Qualcomm announced the launch of the new FastConnect 7900 mobile connectivity system, the first solution that combines AI-optimized Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth chipsets. FastConnect 7900 dynamically adjusts its performance based on factors such as power consumption and environment to provide the best user experience.
Qualcomm CEO Cristiano Amon summarized the opportunities brought by the close integration of AI and wireless connectivity: "The future of generative AI is hybrid, with device-side intelligence working in synergy with cloud-side intelligence... Connectivity is crucial in enabling the expansion of generative AI."
With these technological foundations spanning AI, 5G, and Wi-Fi, Qualcomm explicitly stated its commitment to driving widespread commercialization of intelligence on devices. From AI-driven image generation on smartphones to faster AI photo editing on personal computers, and even to autonomous driving applications, MWC 2024 showcased the emerging era of ubiquitous intelligent computing.
