Recently, Elon Musk's AI company xAI officially launched the standalone iOS application for its chatbot Grok. Previously, Grok was primarily available to paying subscribers of X. This app is now live in several countries including the United States, Australia, and India.
Grok's iOS application offers a variety of features, allowing real-time access to web and X platform data. It provides generative AI functionalities such as text rewriting and long-form summarization, along with basic question-answering capabilities. Additionally, users can generate images from text prompts. According to the app description, Grok aims to be an exceptionally realistic, useful, and curious AI assistant that helps users answer questions, create engaging images, and gain deeper insights into the world by uploading pictures.
Meanwhile, xAI is also preparing a dedicated Grok.com website to offer Grok services on the web. Currently, logging into Grok.com with an xAI account displays a "coming soon" message.
It’s worth noting that Grok was initially exclusive to paying subscribers of X. However, since November last year, xAI began testing a free version of Grok and rolled it out to all users earlier this month. This move places Grok on par with other free chatbots like OpenAI's ChatGPT, Anthropic's Claude, Google's Gemini, and Microsoft's Copilot.
Moreover, after raising $6 billion in June, xAI announced another round of funding totaling $6 billion, with strategic investments from companies like Nvidia and AMD. As for the Android version of Grok, there is currently no specific release date.
