Reports indicate that approximately 300 London-based members of DeepMind, an AI-focused unit under Google, are seeking to form a union in collaboration with the Communication Workers Union. According to a report by the Financial Times, which cited three individuals involved in the unionization efforts.

These DeepMind employees are reportedly dissatisfied with Google's decision to remove its commitment to not use AI for weapons or surveillance. They are also concerned about the company’s partnership with the Israeli military, including a $1.2 billion cloud computing contract, which has sparked protests among other departments within Google.

A source informed the Financial Times that team members feel "betrayed." At least five DeepMind employees have reportedly resigned over these issues. DeepMind employs around 2,000 people in the UK.

A Google spokesperson told the Financial Times that the company encourages "constructive and open dialogue with all employees."

Prior to this, a small group of about 200 employees from Google and its parent company, Alphabet, announced they were forming a union. However, due to its limited size relative to Google's total workforce, the union lacks collective bargaining power.
