Recently, YY Live officially launched its independently developed AI companion broadcaster digital human named "Lingyun". The digital human made its first formal appearance at the YY 2024 Annual Peak Gala held on the 12th. This innovative move signifies a significant step forward for YY Live in the realm of live streaming services.
According to sources, "Lingyun" is the first service-oriented digital human introduced by YY Live. Leveraging advanced proprietary technologies from YY, it has been deployed across more than 6,000 live rooms, serving an average of over one million users daily. Currently, although still in public beta, "Lingyun" has already demonstrated remarkable effectiveness. By the end of 2024, user interactions and comments in these live rooms increased by over 30% thanks to "Lingyun".
Since its launch six months ago, YY Live has continuously optimized and iterated upon "Lingyun" based on feedback from users and broadcasters. Reports indicate that some broadcasters using this tool saw interaction device counts rise by up to 670%, with paying user numbers increasing by 80%. This innovation not only greatly enhanced the efficiency and convenience of live room interactions but also boosted broadcasters' productivity while reducing labor costs for guilds.
YY Live disclosed to the media that multiple updates have been completed for "Lingyun", and the testing scope is being gradually expanded. Looking ahead, YY plans to introduce free conversation capabilities between "Lingyun" and users in 2025, create personalized emojis and songs for broadcasters through AI technology, and explore additional popular features. Additionally, YY aims to develop AI intelligences modeled after broadcasters to provide round-the-clock reception services, ensuring the platform delivers high-quality services around the clock.
As a crucial part of JOYY Inc.'s domestic operations, YY Live stands out as a popular comprehensive entertainment live streaming platform. Currently, YY Live boasts over 41 million monthly active users and more than 1.5 million contracted star broadcasters, making it a leader in the pan-entertainment live streaming industry. However, during its development, YY Live has faced certain challenges.
In November 2020, Baidu planned to acquire YY Live for $3.6 billion, expecting to complete the transaction in the first half of 2021. Nevertheless, this acquisition did not proceed smoothly. In January 2024, Baidu announced that its affiliate Moon had terminated the share purchase agreement with YY Live according to the agreement. Consequently, this three-year-long acquisition saga ended in failure. Despite this setback, YY Live continues to innovate and strive towards providing superior and more convenient live streaming services for users.
