Microsoft Launches Native Copilot App for Windows

2025-03-05

Microsoft has officially launched the native Copilot application for Windows, nearly a year after transitioning it to a fundamental web-based app. This week, the new Copilot app will first become available to members of the Windows Insider Program. The app is built using native XAML and introduces a sidebar along with an optimized user interface.

This updated Windows version of Copilot mirrors the design of the recently released macOS version. Users can upload images and generate either images or text. Additionally, the app allows interaction with Copilot via a microphone and enables users to view conversation history in the revamped sidebar.

Initially, Microsoft integrated Copilot into Windows 11 as a "personal assistant." However, a year later, the company discontinued this integration, opting for a basic web app instead, which diminished Copilot's practicality on newer Copilot Plus PCs. Although Microsoft later introduced keyboard shortcuts and attempted to make the Copilot app appear less like a web-based tool, this week’s update undoubtedly brings substantial improvements.

The new Copilot app is now available through the Microsoft Store to all Windows Insider Program participants, with an expected rollout to all Windows 11 PCs in the coming weeks.
