Mistral Unveils Major Updates for AI Assistant, Mobile App, and Fast Response

2025-02-07

Mistral AI, a Paris-based artificial intelligence startup, has unveiled several significant updates today. They introduced new features for their AI assistant, Le Chat, launched a mobile app, and revamped the pricing structure.

The updated version of Le Chat enhances its web interface. Additionally, a mobile version is now available for iOS and Android devices, offering services to smartphone users.

A standout feature is the introduction of "Lightning Responses," which enables the assistant to deliver up to 1,000 words per second across all user tiers. According to Mistral, this makes their assistant "faster at reasoning, reflecting, and responding than any other chat assistant on the market." This speed applies specifically to text answers; image requests may take longer.

Mistral also integrated a code interpreter into Le Chat, allowing it to execute, analyze, visualize, and simulate data. Users can generate Python code directly from prompts or upload CSV files to visualize data and generate insights. This feature supports quick calculations, plotting, data analysis, and scientific computing.

Anthropic PDC added similar capabilities to Claude last year, enabling it to analyze data, perform complex math operations, and create visualizations using JavaScript.

Mistral upgraded Le Chat's image generation capabilities through Black Forest Labs Inc.'s Flux Ultra model. The company claims this as their top-tier image generation model, capable of producing imaginative and vivid images as well as realistic ones. They assert that its performance surpasses models from OpenAI or Grok.

Mistral incorporated a web search function with citations into its AI assistant, akin to offerings from ChatGPT, Gemini, and Perplexity. Recently, they partnered with Agence France-Presse (AFP), a leading global news agency, to provide swift and comprehensive news coverage. This integration allows users to receive responses enriched with up-to-date factual information supported by current news.

While most interactions with the AI assistant remain free, Mistral offers a Professional Edition for $14.99 per month. Subscribers gain benefits such as unlimited daily messages, unrestricted web browsing, extended news access, file uploads, data analysis, and Lightning Responses. Professional subscribers also have the option to opt out of data sharing with the company.
