According to a report by the Financial Times, Safe Superintelligence (SSI), an AI startup led by OpenAI co-founder and former chief scientist Ilya Sutskever, has raised an additional $20 billion in funding, valuing the company at $32 billion.
The startup had previously secured $1 billion in funding and was reportedly in the process of raising another $1 billion. SSI did not comment on the new round of funding, which was allegedly led by Greenoaks.
Sutskever left OpenAI in May 2024 after reportedly participating in an unsuccessful attempt to oust CEO Sam Altman. He co-founded SSI with Daniel Gross and Daniel Levy, stating that the company has "one goal and one product: safe superintelligence."
The product is likely still under development, as SSI's website currently serves as a placeholder featuring only a mission statement.
