On Monday, Annie Altman, sister of OpenAI CEO Sam Altman, filed a lawsuit against him in a U.S. federal district court, accusing him of sexual abuse. According to the complaint, when Annie was three years old (Sam was twelve), he subjected her to abuse that caused significant emotional distress, mental anguish, and depression. She is seeking over $75,000 in damages and a jury trial.
The lawsuit brought widespread attention to allegations that had been circulating online for more than a year, especially following Sam Altman's controversial dismissal and subsequent reinstatement. If this case goes to trial, it could have disastrous public relations consequences for OpenAI.
On Wednesday, the Altman family issued a statement firmly denying Annie’s accusations, calling them entirely false and causing immense pain to the entire family.
