2025-02-24

Recently, Google unveiled the pricing details for its video generation AI model, Veo 2, which was launched in December of last year. According to the official Google page, the cost to generate video using Veo 2 is $0.5 per second, equivalent to $30 per minute or $1,800 per hour.

To provide a clearer understanding of this cost structure, Google DeepMind researcher Jon Barron compared it with the production budget of the renowned blockbuster "Avengers: Endgame." The movie had a staggering production budget of $356 million, translating to approximately $32,000 per second.

It's important to note that when users are generating videos with Veo 2, not every second requires payment. Additionally, Veo 2 is currently not capable of producing full-length films like those in the "Avengers" series, which can run up to three hours. Google emphasized that Veo 2 is designed to create video clips lasting two minutes or longer.

In comparison, another relevant price point is the subscription fee for OpenAI's video generation model, Sora. OpenAI offers Sora as part of its ChatGPT Pro subscription, priced at $200 per month.
