2025-01-22

French AI laboratory Mistral is accelerating its plans for an initial public offering. This information was disclosed by Arthur Mensch, co-founder and CEO of Mistral, during an interview with Bloomberg at the World Economic Forum in Davos.

Mensch emphasized that Mistral has "no intention of selling." He elaborated that the company intends to open an office in Singapore to enhance its focus on the Asia-Pacific region while also expanding operations in Europe and the United States. "Our plan is definitely to go public," he stated.

Mistral was established in 2023 by Mensch, along with former researchers from Google DeepMind and Meta. The lab is seen as Europe's response to leading American AI companies like OpenAI. Mistral offers AI models and services that compete with those of OpenAI, including a platform similar to ChatGPT called Le Chat.

To date, Mistral has raised approximately $1.14 billion from investors such as Andreessen Horowitz, General Catalyst, and Lightspeed Venture Partners. The company's latest valuation is reportedly around $6 billion.
