OpenAI Empowers ChatGPT Enterprise Users with Enhanced Control

2024-07-19

OpenAI has released new enterprise control features for customers using its ChatGPT Enterprise, covering compliance, data security, and access security extensions. OpenAI's new Enterprise Compliance API provides ChatGPT Enterprise users with timestamped conversation, uploaded files, metadata, ChatGPT memory, and workspace user interaction records. This record allows enterprises to audit the data they share on ChatGPT Enterprise. Although OpenAI provides this API, the company also collaborates with multiple third-party compliance providers that users can connect with. These include integrations with Forcepoint, Global Relay, Microsoft Purview, Netskope, Palo Alto Networks, Relativity, Smarsh, and zScaler. "The new integrations provided by these providers support a range of compliance-related activities such as archiving, audit tracking, data deletion and retention, and policy enforcement," OpenAI stated in a blog post. The company states that even organizations in highly regulated fields can leverage these integrations to comply with GDPR, HIPAA, and FINRA rules. It can also provide "written records" of documents for enterprise legal teams and ensure that personal data that should be deleted has indeed been removed. ChatGPT Enterprise customers typically have a large number of users. To manage these users, OpenAI will launch an identity management system to simplify permission granting. The System for Cross-domain Identity Management (SCIM) synchronizes user access information and updates who can use the platform. This allows account administrators to quickly configure or remove access to ChatGPT Enterprise. Administrators can also create user groups, manage shared permissions, delete GPTs, transfer ownership, and approve external GPTs. These controls will complement existing features such as single sign-on, custom data retention, and encryption. OpenAI introduced ChatGPT Enterprise in 2023 as its second paid option for its popular ChatGPT. The enterprise version offers "enterprise-grade security," a larger context window, and faster response times, surpassing its other paid products such as ChatGPT Plus and ChatGPT Teams (also an enterprise solution but designed for a smaller number of users). OpenAI's Chief Operating Officer, Brad Lightcap, stated in April that 2024 is the company's "enterprise year" as they anticipate growth in this field. ChatGPT Enterprise plays a significant role in driving enterprise growth. However, the company also provides APIs that businesses can use to incorporate OpenAI's base models into their own applications.
