Meta Tests AI Video Editing Features to Enhance Advertiser Innovation

2024-10-09

Recently, users browsing their Instagram and Facebook feeds may encounter video advertisements edited by artificial intelligence. This development stems from Meta's experimental AI video editing feature, which enables advertisers to animate static images and extend the boundaries of videos.

With the AI animation tool, advertisers can upload a single static image and utilize Meta's "generate" feature to create a video. For instance, Meta's AI can make strawberries in the background gently float around a jar.

Additionally, these new tools can upscale existing videos by using AI to generate "pixels not previously visible in each frame," thereby increasing the video's size. This approach is similar to certain AI image editing tools that allow users to expand image backgrounds. Meta has begun rolling out these functionalities and plans for a broader launch early next year.

These features build upon Meta's existing AI capabilities for advertisers, which already allow companies to generate text and images when creating ads. These advertisements will also appear in Facebook's forthcoming full-screen video section.

It's important to note that Meta is not the only platform enabling advertisers to use AI for ad creation. Last month, Amazon introduced an AI tool that creates video clips based on product images, and TikTok is also experimenting with AI-generated virtual avatars in advertisements.
