Microsoft Copilot Officially Launched

2023-12-04

Microsoft announced the full launch of its AI-powered conversational assistant, Copilot. Previously known as Bing Chat during the preview period, Copilot is now officially released and is no longer considered a preview product. According to Caitlin Roulston, Microsoft's Communications Director, this means that Copilot now supports 105 languages and can be used in 169 countries on "all modern mobile and web browsers."

Copilot's notable feature is that it provides access to the latest AI models, such as GPT-4, and is able to reference the latest information by browsing the web. It can assist users in completing daily tasks such as drafting documents, summarizing articles, generating images using DALL-E 3, learning new skills, and answering complex queries.

For businesses, Copilot includes free commercial data protection. This means that user prompts and responses remain private, and the data is not used for further AI model training. Enterprises will also receive contractual commitments regarding data privacy. It aims to alleviate common concerns surrounding responsible AI adoption.

Microsoft has also improved the Copilot experience by updating the user interface on copilot.microsoft.com.

According to Caitlin Roulston, Microsoft's Communications Director, despite the removal of the preview label today, Microsoft will continue to "roll out new features in preview, iterate, listen to feedback, and improve the user experience."
