Microsoft discontinues GPT Builder feature for customers in Copilot Pro

2024-06-13

Starting from July 10, 2024, the GPT Builder feature in Copilot Pro will be phased out. From July 10 to July 14, 2024, all GPTs created by Microsoft and its users, along with related data, will be deleted.

Microsoft has released a statement on its website, stating, "We will continue to evaluate the scalability strategy of Copilot for consumers, while prioritizing core product experience and developer opportunities. As a result, we will shift the focus of GPT to commercial and enterprise scenarios and cease the development of GPT in Copilot for consumers."

In January of this year, Microsoft introduced a subscription model for Copilot. Similar to OpenAI's ChatGPT Plus, Copilot Pro charges a monthly fee of $20, providing subscribers with priority access to AI models and integration with Microsoft Office applications such as Word and PowerPoint.

The tech giant has informed users that if they have a customized Copilot GPT and wish to preserve their unique instructions, they should enter the edit mode of GPT. There, navigate to the configuration tab, where you will find the customized instructions. It is a good practice to copy and save these instructions in another location for future reference.

This is important because all data collected by the Copilot GPT Builder and any GPTs created by customers will be deleted.

Why is Microsoft discontinuing the GPT Builder in Copilot Pro?

This news is not entirely surprising. As early as May, Microsoft announced that it would pause the development of Copilot AI to improve the current functionality of the tool based on user feedback. The company assured that these improvements would not disrupt users' experience with Copilot. Therefore, this may be a strategic move by Microsoft to enhance the usability of Copilot.
