"NVIDIA Helps Foxconn Unleash Its Electric Vehicle Ambitions"

2023-11-28

Global electronics manufacturers are leveraging NVIDIA's artificial intelligence, 3D, simulation, and autonomous driving technologies to enhance digital transformation.

Foxconn, as the largest electronics manufacturer and supplier to Apple, naturally began to move towards the production of electric vehicles (EV) this year. NVIDIA is helping them achieve this goal and is also developing automation and autonomous vehicle platforms.

"This collaboration will provide scale for the NVIDIA DRIVE platform to meet growing demand," said CEO Jensen Huang in a recent record-breaking revenue report.

He said Foxconn will use NVIDIA DRIVE, Hyperion, and sensor architecture to build its electric vehicles. In addition, he stated that the company will become a Tier 1 manufacturer, based on NVIDIA DRIVE Orin, for global automotive production electronic control units.

This is happening against the backdrop of NVIDIA DRIVE operating system receiving TUV SUD safety certification. Huang said that as "one of the most experienced and stringent assessment organizations in the automotive industry," their platform meets higher standards required for autonomous driving traffic.

The alliance between NVIDIA and Foxconn is unique, as this collaboration has launched the construction of an AI factory designed specifically to utilize NVIDIA's GPU computing infrastructure, which is explicitly used to process, refine, and transform massive datasets into valuable AI models and tokens.

Driving AI Innovation Together

"As the world's largest manufacturer, Foxconn has the expertise and scale to build AI factories globally. We are excited to expand our over a decade-long partnership with Foxconn to accelerate the AI industrial revolution," said NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang when discussing the collaboration with Foxconn.

Foxconn is also utilizing NVIDIA Omniverse to produce electric vehicles. With the support of an extensive network of partners, manufacturers are able to strengthen their workflows by leveraging a range of NVIDIA technologies to plan, build, operate, and optimize their factories.

Why is Everyone Manufacturing Electric Vehicles?

Apple, OPPO, Xiaomi, Samsung, Huawei, almost every company is seeking to manufacture electric vehicles. Now, Foxconn has also joined this list. These companies have chosen to transition into the automotive industry due to government incentives to produce environmentally friendly vehicles.

All of this is happening against the backdrop of the United Nations issuing a red alert on climate change, and many transportation aggregators have also made commitments to achieve their sustainability goals. For example, Uber has stated that it will achieve carbon neutrality by 2025.

In light of these events, many smartphone manufacturers and electronics manufacturers are undergoing transformations to bridge the supply-demand gap, and electric vehicles make it more attractive than ever before. NVIDIA makes all of this easier.
