OpenAI is actively testing the ChatGPT application on the Windows platform, currently restricting access to premium subscribers. Users can now access an early version of the app by downloading it from the Microsoft Store.
The Windows iteration of ChatGPT mirrors its Mac counterpart, enabling users to interact with the AI chatbot within a dedicated window that can operate alongside other applications. Utilizing the Alt + Space keyboard shortcut allows for quick launching of the application.
Additionally, users have the capability to upload files and images to ChatGPT and can experiment with OpenAI's o1 model, which is reportedly equipped with certain "reasoning" abilities. However, the present version of the app does not support some advanced features, such as complex voice interaction modes.
Shortly after OpenAI released the Mac version of the ChatGPT application in June, a security flaw was identified by developers: conversations were being stored in plain text. OpenAI promptly addressed this vulnerability by implementing encryption for locally saved data.
While the application is currently available on Windows exclusively to ChatGPT Plus, Enterprise, Team, and Edu subscribers, OpenAI has announced plans to extend its availability to a broader user base later this year.
