Microsoft Copilot AI Assistant Update Enhances Teams Collaboration Experience
Microsoft has announced a series of updates for the Copilot AI assistant in Teams, aimed at enhancing collaboration and improving the hybrid meeting experience. These new features are expected to help users save time and increase productivity.
Starting from May, Copilot in meetings will provide information and insights from meeting chats and transcripts. This means users will have a more comprehensive understanding of the content covered in meetings, whether it is verbal or written.
In addition, starting from April, Copilot in the Teams chat input box will allow users to modify messages and provide customized rewritten versions. For example, Copilot can add action calls in messages or even rewrite messages in pirate language. Soon, users will be able to generate new messages through prompts by simply typing a few words in the Teams chat, saving time and effort.
Another upcoming feature is Intelligent Call Review, which will provide AI-based insights and reviews for VoIP and public switched telephone network calls in Teams. This feature will be fully rolled out in June along with Teams Premium and Copilot.
Microsoft IntelliFrame will also improve hybrid meetings. This feature uses Cloud AI to recognize and capture individual video streams of each participant in the room, making it easier for remote participants to see the people in the room. IntelliFrame will be enabled by default on Teams Rooms devices, ensuring that meeting spaces are ready for hybrid work.
Furthermore, the automatic camera switching feature of IntelliFrame will be launched later this year. This feature uses AI to determine and select the best view of each person in the meeting room, ensuring that every remote participant is aware of the people in the room.
The speech recognition capabilities of existing microphones will also be improved for transcription accuracy, and Copilot will provide meeting insights for Teams Rooms in the Windows environment. When you join a meeting from a Teams Room, what you say in the meeting will be isolated and attributed to you in the transcription, simply by registering your voice and facial profile.
Voice isolation is another AI-based feature that ensures only your voice is heard when participating in calls or meetings in noisy environments. After completing a short registration process, this advanced noise reduction feature will isolate your voice and eliminate all other background noises, including other people's voices.
Microsoft is also expanding its Teams Phone and customer-facing capabilities. Starting from April 1, 2024, the company will update its Teams Phone financial support service level agreement to 99.999% uptime. Several new partners, including AT&T, Odido, Virgin Media O2, and Vodafone UK, will start offering Teams Phone Mobile later this year.
The new "Queues" application, currently in private preview, will be fully launched in June along with Teams Premium, creating a workspace for supervisors and employees to communicate with customers. Additionally, enhanced features for Copilot in Service will soon allow agents to chat with Copilot during meetings, ask case and contact-related questions, summarize cases, and perform reasoning based on knowledge.
Ultimately, Microsoft's vision with Copilot is to bring the power of generative AI to everyone. All these updates are part of the company's ongoing efforts to build the foundation for the future, with a focus on the core fundamentals of Teams, including performance, reliability, and ease of use.
