NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang Predicts AI to Match Human Intelligence within Five Years

2024-03-04

According to the latest report, Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang believes that artificial intelligence (AI) capable of thinking like humans will emerge within five years. During a forum held at Stanford University, Huang was asked about the timeline for achieving the goal of general artificial intelligence (AGI). He stated that it primarily depends on how AGI is defined. If AGI refers to intelligence that can pass various human tests, he believes this goal could be achieved in the near future. Huang further explained, "If we list a series of tests that AI needs to pass and present these tests to the computer science industry, I expect that we will excel in every test within the next five years." He added that while AI has demonstrated remarkable capabilities in certain fields, such as passing the bar exam, challenges still exist in other areas. However, he firmly believes that in five years, this technology will be able to pass any test presented to it. However, Huang also acknowledged that AGI may still be far from reach if viewed from other perspectives. This is because scientists have not reached a consensus on how to describe human mental functions. He said, "This is a huge challenge for engineers because we need clear goals." Despite Silicon Valley's investment of billions of dollars in AGI, its realization remains uncertain. Some researchers at Stanford University believe that current technology and any signs of AGI capabilities in AI systems are merely illusions. Others in the industry criticize the hype surrounding AGI development, calling it a "sci-fi marketing gimmick." Huang's comments come at a time when Nvidia's market value has reached $2 trillion, surpassing this milestone on the same day. This demonstrates his confidence in Nvidia's future in the field of AI and his anticipation of significant progress in the coming years.
