Five Apple Products Likely to Be Discontinued Next Month

2024-09-29

Apple is anticipated to host its upcoming keynote in October, primarily highlighting the iPad and Mac lineup. However, the launch of new products typically means discontinuing older models. Below are some Apple devices that you may no longer find available in the Apple Store following the keynote.

M3 MacBook Pro

Apple is forecasted to unveil the new 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro models next month, powered by the M4, M4 Pro, and M4 Max chips. Beyond the processor enhancements, the new MacBook Pro is expected to remain largely unchanged in other aspects. No significant design alterations are anticipated, although the base model MacBook Pro may start with 16GB of RAM.

Additionally, the base model MacBook Pro is likely to feature a space black color instead of the traditional space gray.

M2 Mac mini

Next month, Apple will release the most significant redesign of the Mac mini in 14 years, featuring a more compact design, front-facing ports, and additional enhancements. The last update to the Mac mini occurred in January 2023, introducing models equipped with M2 and M2 Pro chips. That update marked the first Mac mini variants with professional-grade chips, and we anticipate that the redesigned Mac mini launching next month will come with the M4 and M4 Pro processors.

M3 iMac

We also anticipate that the iMac will receive a minor update next month, upgrading from the M3 chip to the M4 chip. Although the update may be modest, it's likely that the Magic Keyboard, Magic Mouse, and Magic Trackpad will transition from Lightning ports to USB-C connections.

iPad mini 6

Apple is expected to finally update the iPad mini, marking the first refresh of the product in three years. The new iPad mini will feature a brand-new chip supporting Apple's intelligent technologies, likely the A18. Additionally, the updated iPad mini may support the Apple Pencil Pro, include a new display to address jelly scrolling issues, and offer 128GB of storage in the base model.

iPad 10?

There are conflicting rumors regarding whether a new entry-level iPad will be launched next month. According to Ross Young, the panels for the base model iPad will begin shipping this month, suggesting that the product will be released in the spring.

However, Mark Gurman from Bloomberg mentioned a few weeks ago that a "new low-end iPad" is in development and planned for an October release, indicating that both the base model iPad and iPad mini will receive updates.

Apple's plans for the iPad remain to be confirmed, but if we trust Gurman, then the iPad 10 is likely to be replaced by the 11th generation iPad next month.
