Yesterday, Huawei officially introduced its highly anticipated HarmonyOS 5.0, marking the debut of the pure Harmony system to all consumers. The newly released HarmonyOS 5.0 offers significant improvements in performance smoothness and integrates the AI-powered Xiaoyi intelligent agent, transforming it into a super AI assistant. Additionally, HarmonyOS's cross-device collaboration capabilities have been further expanded.
At the press conference, Yu Chengdong, chairman of Huawei's Consumer BG and chairman of the Smart Automotive Solutions BU, took the stage to deliver his speech as a familiar figure to everyone. He announced that the number of devices in the Harmony ecosystem has exceeded the 1 billion mark, and the Harmony system has 6.75 million registered developers.
Yu Chengdong emphasized that HarmonyOS is a comprehensive intelligent operating system tailored for the era of IoT connectivity, capable of covering a wide range of devices from smartphones, tablets, wearables, cars, and TVs to various IoT products. Through HarmonyOS, users can achieve seamless connectivity across all their devices within a single system, building a unified ecosystem.
Additionally, HarmonyOS is a fully self-developed full-stack operating system, encompassing the OS kernel, file system, database, programming languages, compiler, programming frameworks, as well as AI, multimedia, graphics, and integrated development environments. Yu Chengdong stated that HarmonyOS fundamentally breaks through the core technologies of operating systems, accomplishing in 10 years what took the West 30 years, thereby achieving autonomous and controllable terminal operating systems.
In terms of developing native HarmonyOS applications, many leading apps have rapidly completed adaptation and have achieved numerous experience upgrades. For example, Meituan utilizes HarmonyOS to enable intelligent scanning, simplifying the previously five-step bike operation into a single step.
At the same time, the ecosystem of HarmonyOS meta services has further expanded, covering major scenarios such as healthcare, finance, daily living, transportation, payments, dining, and entertainment. Currently, the number of native HarmonyOS applications and meta services has exceeded 15,000. Yu Chengdong pointed out that HarmonyOS has, in just one year, accomplished what took foreign operating system ecosystems over a decade to achieve, and has received over one million user feedback suggestions.
The recently launched HarmonyOS 5.0 is an upgraded version of the previous HarmonyOS NEXT. Based on a new system architecture and the integration of software, hardware, and cloud ecosystems, it has achieved a 30% improvement in smoothness and extended battery life by 56 minutes. The distributed soft bus technology enhances device connection speeds by three times, increases the number of connections by four times, and simultaneously reduces connection power consumption by 20%.
In AI, the new Xiaoyi intelligent agent is built upon the Pangu large model, achieving a 90% success rate in reasoning and planning tasks. It possesses memory and perception capabilities across 23 top scenarios, with its token knowledge base reaching the trillion level.
HarmonyOS 5.0 has undergone significant upgrades in refinement, connectivity, intelligence, security, and smoothness, emphasizing that these experiences are "native." The Xiaoyi intelligent agent has achieved substantial upgrades in AI, supporting more multimodal interaction capabilities and enhancing the execution of complex tasks, intent recognition and understanding, as well as AI image and text processing capabilities.
Moreover, HarmonyOS 5.0 further enhances cross-device connectivity advantages. Users can scan images with their phone cameras and synchronize them to documents on tablets, or paste cut-out objects from their phones into design software on tablets. Additionally, Huawei's sharing feature has been upgraded, allowing users to share content with multiple people simultaneously without needing to add them as friends.
In terms of performance, the Ark Engine has also been comprehensively upgraded, including optimizations of its seven sub-engines: graphics, multimedia, memory, scheduling, storage, low power, and web. This allows users to enjoy a smoother, more efficient, and more power-saving experience when playing games, taking photos, running daily apps, and using AI services.
With the accelerated growth of the Harmony ecosystem, the pure Harmony experience has become Huawei's flagship advantage in smart devices. Looking ahead, as AI smartphones become a focal point of industry competition, Huawei, being the first domestic manufacturer to integrate large model capabilities into intelligent assistants, will continue to bring new technologies and experiences in the AI domain. We anticipate Huawei will continue to lead industry development and deliver more surprises to users in the future.
