The Advanced Technology Research Council (ATRC) in Abu Dhabi has launched AI71, a newly established AI company dedicated to competing with leading AI labs, including OpenAI. The company made its debut at an exclusive launch event in Abu Dhabi. AI71 is the result of extensive AI research and development activities led by the Technology Innovation Institute (TII) and will focus on marketing and supporting TII's Falcon Large Language Model (LLM) introduced earlier this year. The company begins its journey with three unique vertical platforms: LAW71, RAZI71, and ASK71, each serving specific domains. More platforms are expected to be unveiled in the near future. VentureOne, the technology commercialization branch of ATRC, played a crucial role in shaping this innovative enterprise, solidifying Abu Dhabi's position in the AI competition landscape. AI Competition in the UAE This year, the UAE has been at the forefront of AI innovation, with TII and G42 launching LLM domestically. TII released an upgraded version of Falcon 40B earlier this year, followed by Falcon 180B LLM a few months ago. Furthermore, the UAE is also driving development to meet the needs of the local population. Earlier this month, Core42 introduced Jais 30B, an Arabic language large language model, which is currently the only open-source LLM for Arabic, with a model size of 30 billion parameters. Jais 13B was launched in August. Jais is a collaboration between Core42, Mohamed bin Zayed AI University, and Cerebras Systems. With these developments, it is evident that the UAE is continuously pushing for a dominant position in the field of AI.
