In today's technology-driven world, AI is no longer a concept limited to science fiction novels. It is a very real part of our daily lives, powering everything from recommendation algorithms that guide our online shopping to virtual assistants that respond to our voice commands.

As AI continues to evolve and integrate into a wider range of industries, both individuals and businesses are becoming increasingly curious about the technology behind these intelligent systems. A recent study by IDC found that 71% of the respondents already use AI tools in their work, and 22% plan to start using them next year.

However, the problem still exists that many companies want to use AI more, but there are not enough skilled workers in this field. In the survey, 52% of the respondents said that the lack of trained workers is the main obstacle to using more AI in their business.

Microsoft offers AI skills challenge for the UK workforce

To equip the UK workforce with the skills needed to thrive in the ever-evolving digital landscape, global giant Microsoft has launched the AI Skills Challenge, aimed at teaching AI knowledge and empowering individuals to become AI developers.

Simon Lambert, Chief Learning Officer of Microsoft UK, said, "We look forward to building an AI-ready economy, and we need people to be more curious about AI. Every job will soon be supported by AI, and we need people with the right skills to fill these jobs. That's why we are expanding our skills commitment to help provide AI skills to one million people by 2025.

"A good way to start your technical skills learning is to join our AI Skills Challenge, where you can follow learning paths, monitor your progress through leaderboards, and earn badges. It's a fun way to learn while having fun."

Fundamental learning and development of AI skills

The AI Skills Challenge is open to individuals of all skill levels, from complete beginners to experienced professionals seeking to expand their AI expertise. The program offers comprehensive courses covering the fundamentals of AI development, including machine learning, cognitive services, machine learning operations (MLOps), and AI Builder.

Through hands-on learning modules, interactive exercises, and real-world case studies, participants will gain a practical understanding of how to build and deploy intelligent applications using cutting-edge AI tools and technologies from Microsoft.

Upon completion of the challenge, participants will receive completion badges to recognize their achievements in acquiring the necessary AI skills. This badge is a valuable certificate that can enhance their resumes and demonstrate their proficiency in AI development. The AI Skills Challenge demonstrates Microsoft's commitment to nurturing a digital skills workforce and preparing for AI-driven innovation in the future of the UK.

Clare Barclay, CEO of Microsoft UK, said, "The UK indeed has the opportunity to become a leader in the AI era, but as our research shows, there are barriers preventing the UK from turning its ambitions into action. Every job will soon be supported by AI, and we need innovative talent with the right skills to fill these jobs.

"That's why Microsoft is expanding its skills commitment. By 2025, we will support one million people in gaining the AI skills needed to start or transition into tech careers. In doing so, we will open up AI opportunities for diverse talent across the UK."
