Google launches Gemini AI video creation tool Vids

2024-07-16

Google has launched its new productivity application, Vids, in Workspace Labs, with the concept of "if you can make slides, you can create videos in Vids." The application was announced in April and allows users to put documents, slides, voiceovers, and recorded video content into a timeline to create presentation videos and share them with colleagues. It is being introduced in the preview version of Workspace Labs, allowing Workspace administrators to select users to try out this AI-driven video maker. While you can generate videos in Vids, do not confuse it with AI tools like OpenAI's Sora, which can create realistic video clips based on prompts. Instead, Vids generates presentation slides based on the description of the content you want Gemini to create, and then allows you to modify the video afterwards. You can also start your Google presentation draft manually using one of the many templates provided by Vids, and there is also a royalty-free stock content library available to enhance your creations. However, as demonstrated in the video presentation, the key feature is that Gemini automatically inserts stock materials, generates scripts, and even provides AI voiceovers for your next presentation, without you having to say a word.
