Snapchat Launches New Generative AI Feature to Make Your Photos More Fun

2023-12-14

Snapchat is adding more generative AI features. The messaging app now allows subscribers of Snapchat Plus to create images based on a text prompt and send them to friends. Users who subscribe to the $3.99 Snapchat plan can access this feature by clicking the "AI" button on the right side of the camera interface's toolbar. This will open a window where users can enter a text prompt or choose from some preset options, such as "a futuristic disco" or "a rocket ready for launch." Next, Snapchat's AI will generate an image based on the prompt, which users can edit and add a message to before sending it to friends on the app. Snapchat also offers some other AI-driven perks for subscribers, including a method to make subjects in photos appear farther away by using AI to fill the background. Users can try this feature by taking a close-up shot, tapping the "crop" icon on the camera interface, and selecting "extend." There is also a new way to use "Dreams" - Snapchat's AI selfie feature that transforms photos based on specific themes - along with photos containing friends. Snapchat Plus subscribers can receive a free pack of eight Dreams each month. All of these additions contribute to the wave of AI features that Snapchat and other apps have been introducing this year. In addition to launching an AI chatbot for all users in April, Snapchat has recently added a method for developers to create filters using ChatGPT.
