Musk Reveals Grok 1.5 Expected to Launch Next Month on Social Platform

Tesla and xAI CEO Elon Musk announced that the next version of the Grok language model is set to be released to the public and is expected to include "substantial improvements."

In response to a post on X claiming that Grok's error output rate is roughly comparable to xAI competitor OpenAI's ChatGPT, Musk stated on Monday that the next version of the system should be launched next month. He also mentioned that the new version will bring improvements in various aspects, hinting that it may result in fewer illusions compared to the current version.

Last July, Musk founded his AI company xAI, with Grok being the company's first software product, officially released in November last year. Grok is available for subscribers of X Premium Plus accounts, and Musk also mentioned that Tesla will eventually run a smaller, localized version of the software in its vehicles.

On xAI's website, the company states, "Grok is an AI designed in the spirit of 'The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy' and aims to answer almost any question, and more importantly, suggest what questions to ask!"

The software also offers the option to use either a fun mode or a regular mode, with Musk noting that the fun mode is more rebellious and humorous.

Last summer, Musk launched xAI, and in December, the company registered a welfare corporation in Nevada, indicating that it will focus on social and environmental impact throughout its operations. The company states on its website that xAI's mission is to "enhance our collective understanding of the universe."

In the past, Musk has been outspoken about the risks of artificial intelligence, recently stating that he would be "uncomfortable" developing AI and robotics technology at Tesla without about a quarter of the stakeholders having voting control.
