Google Chrome Browser Launches New Features for iOS and Android

Google has made improvements to its mobile version of the Chrome browser, with the team stating that "searching on mobile should be as smooth as searching on your computer."

In a recent (June 26th) product update article, Nick Kim Sexton, the product manager of Chrome, announced five new features that will be added to Android and iOS.

These new features aim to make searching on mobile phones or tablets easier and eliminate the clumsiness that can sometimes be experienced when browsing on mobile devices.

The Chrome updates include shortcuts, sports, and suggestions.

The first addition is the new Chrome actions. For example, when searching for a restaurant, quick buttons will appear in the search results as you type. This includes options such as "call," "directions," and "reviews," making it easier to obtain the desired information.

This feature has already been launched on Chrome for Android and will be available on iOS later this fall.

The address bar (where you enter the website address) has also been refreshed to accommodate larger screen sizes on iPads and Android tablets. Now, websites should be visible in the dropdown menu options while searching.

More shortcut suggestions have also been added, taking into account the words you typically type to access previously visited websites. "For example, if you often type 'timetable' to view the subway schedule for a city, because that word is part of the website's description," Sexton wrote.

"With this new feature, whenever you search for 'timetable,' 'city subway' will now appear higher in your search suggestions."

The trending search suggestions that are already available on Android will soon be launched on iOS, and these suggestions will be displayed below the address bar.

Lastly, the "Discover" push notifications in Chrome have added sports cards and are available on iOS and Android. This means that if you have previously shown interest in a particular team, you will now automatically receive the latest updates on their matches.

You can customize this feature in the "Discover" push notifications of the Chrome mobile app by selecting the three-dot menu.
