Microsoft Copilot Update: Customizable Adjustments for a More Personalized Experience

2023-11-16

At the Microsoft Ignite conference, Microsoft announced a series of changes to its Microsoft Copilot AI to make this chatbot more interactive and engaging in Teams meetings. These updates expand Copilot's role as an enterprise assistant in Office applications such as Teams, PowerPoint, and Outlook. Microsoft has added flexibility to the chatbot's output so that users can adjust its format and tone through commands to better suit their preferences. Word and PowerPoint will be the first to receive these personalized features, but Microsoft stated that other Microsoft 365 applications will also gradually provide support. Microsoft also announced changes to how Copilot works in Teams meetings next year. Copilot will start taking notes during the meeting and share them with participants afterwards. If users want real-time notes from a specific person, they can instruct the chatbot to "quote" them, and it will record their remarks. Microsoft is separating Copilot from meeting recordings, so participants can now use this chatbot during Teams sessions, but these interactions will not be recorded. In addition to answering questions, the chatbot will create real-time notes and can be prompted to record quotes from specific individuals. As shown in the animation above, Copilot sometimes provides visual content on a whiteboard, such as key points of the meeting discussion. The whiteboard is shared with everyone in the meeting for collaboration. In PowerPoint, employees will soon be able to instruct the chatbot to access their company's gallery and even make adjustments using Microsoft Designer. In the spring of next year, Microsoft stated that Copilot will be able to prepare meetings for users by integrating relevant information from Outlook emails, calendar invitations, and related documents. Finally, in Word, Copilot will soon have the ability to inform users about document revisions. Microsoft also announced some new Copilot packages: Copilot for Dynamics 365, Copilot for Service, and Copilot for Sales. In Dynamics 365, Copilot will provide quick answers for field technicians, while the Service edition (to be launched in early 2024) aims to provide agent support, offering answers and personalized resources to customers. Copilot for Sales (to be launched in the first quarter of 2024) will serve as a medium for accessing information, particularly focusing on AI-generated meeting briefings that include customer details, as well as the names and titles of attendees.
