Google Rolls Out AI Search Summaries to Over 100 Countries

2024-10-29

This week, Google's AI-generated search snippet feature is set to roll out in over 100 countries. These AI-powered summaries will be available to users in numerous nations including Canada, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, Colombia, Chile, the Philippines, and Nigeria, among others. A comprehensive list of supported countries can be viewed on Google's website.

In each region, the AI search summaries will be presented in any supported language, such as English, Hindi, Indonesian, Japanese, Portuguese, and Spanish. This means that users in the United States conducting searches in Spanish will also see AI-generated summaries in the same language.

Earlier this month, Google introduced advertisements within the mobile AI search summaries in the United States exclusively. For all other regions, Google stated that “ads will continue to appear in dedicated slots on the page” instead of being embedded directly within the AI search summaries.

Google launched the AI search snippet feature in the U.S. in May of this year and expanded it to the United Kingdom, India, Japan, Indonesia, Mexico, and Brazil in August. After several months of testing, the company has also started to more prominently display the webpages referenced in the AI search summaries.
